K-1 combines techniques from Karate, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing and other stand up martial arts to work towards a universal martial art.
K-1 was founded in 1993 in Tokyo by Kazuyoshi Ishii, a Japanese master of Seidokaikan karate. It was designed to determine the best fighters from across a number of different disciplines. The art involves striking martial arts and is an essential component, along with Grappling Classes, if you want to learn Mixed Martial Arts.
K-1 looks to incorporate a vast range of martial arts to defeat an opponent using elemental fighting techniques. It uses a simplified version of kickboxing rules in which knees can be used. It is designed to create exciting matches for any audience during competitions, many of the fights end in a knock out. The net result is a tremendous workout that develops fitness, discipline and conditioning.
The sport is very popular in Japan, Korea, Brazil and Europe but enjoys only limited popularity in the United Kingdom. This popularity is growing, and there has never been a more exciting time to learn the sport. No 1 Fitness Centre, in Cross Hills, offers the sport because it is a highly effective fighting style for competitions.
